Ssssh...The Silence Speaks

This participative art project brings an ode to silence. Once in a while, everyone longs for silence, but in our current society everything seems to go faster and become louder. We have become so used to the rush that sudden silence can be overwhelming, because then then we start to hear the voices in our mind.

During creative workshops, visitors of the Tivoli parc in Mechelen were invited to make hollow stones from clay. Inspired by stone cairns, these stones were placed in an open space in a forested area of the parc. A small wooden box with paper and pencil was placed next to it. Visitors are invited to write down their worries and leave them behind inside the stones.

GREETINGS FROM SILENCE

During the project, I spend one night in the public parc, to observe the quietest part of the day and encounter animals, rain and nightly visitors. I made 10 illustrations of this experience, which were printed on postcard together with reflections about silence and informaion about the project. These postcards where handed out to visitors and distributed in the mailboxes of local residents.
